2019 Event exceeds expectations raising more than $110,000 for the working uninsured
On Wednesday, February 6, 2019, twelve Northeast Florida women, committed to leadership, advocacy, passion and hard work, were recognized at the third annual Women with Heart luncheon. The event presented by Florida Blue, raised more than $110,000 net to benefit Volunteers in Medicine. The 2019 Women with Heart are:
Martha Baker – Community Trustee and incoming Board Chair for The Community Foundation
Vickie Cavey – Former JEA Vice President and current Ponte Vedra Beach Rotary President
Inger Geraghty – Board Member for American Heart Association, Board Member for See the Girl
Virginia Hall – President and Chief Development Officer (July 2019), St. Vincent’s Healthcare Foundation
Rev. Dr. Helen Jackson – President and CEO, Women of Color Cultural Foundation, Inc.
Helga Langthon – Vice President/Owner, Soho Network Solutions, Inc.
Eleanor Lynch – Senior Vice President of Operations, Memorial Hospital
Velma Monteiro-Tribble – Director of Grants and Programs, Florida Blue Foundation
Dr. Pam Rama – Cardiologist, Baptist Heart Specialists; Chief of Staff and Medical Director of Cardio-Pulmonary Rehabilitation for Baptist Beaches Hospital
Ellen Wiss – Community Trustee and former President of the Women’s Giving Alliance
Sol Wynter – Multi-lingual Consulting Group Services and Community Organizer
In addition, Sherry Magill received top honor with the Dorion-Burt “Heart of Gold” award at the luncheon. Sherry was recognized not only for her contributions during the founding of Volunteers in Medicine but also for her role leading the Jesse Ball DuPont Fund.
The Women with Heart are community leaders, advocates, and key influencers. Their advocacy, volunteerism, and commitment to the health of our community set the bar for others to exceed. The Women with Heart luncheon kicked off a year-long series of events to benefit Volunteers in Medicine. Each honoree has committed to a month of advocacy and fundraising for the clinic. During their month of service, the Women with Heart will wear the new 2019 “Heart of Jacksonville” – a $15,000 diamond heart necklace custom designed by Dennis Marshall of Allen’s Jewelers. The necklace will serve as a conversation starter to further increase awareness of the mission of Volunteers in Medicine.
