2019 Event exceeds expectations raising more than $110,000 for the working uninsured
In a surprise announcement at a Volunteers in Medicine event held at the end of the September, Florida Blue confirmed that that the company will once again serve as presenting sponsor for the organization’s annual “Women With Heart” event. The announcement was made by Florida Blue Market President Darnell Smith. “As a company dedicated to the mission of helping people and communities achieve better health, Florida Blue is proud to once again serve as the presenting sponsor of the 2018 “Women With Heart” event, one of Northeast Florida’s most unique year-round recognition and fundraising Events, said Smith. “Florida Blue shares Volunteers in Medicine’s mission to ensure that everyone has access to quality healthcare, especially, Northeast Florida’s most vulnerable residents — are vulnerable, hard-working, uninsured, ” he concluded.
The 2018 “Women With Heart” Luncheon presented by Florida Blue is slated for February 6, 2019, and will fittingly take place on the Deerwood Campus at the Florida Blue conference center. The luncheon kicks off a year-long celebration and recognizes the leadership, advocacy and generosity each of these women possess and the positive influence they have had in improving the lives of so many. On February 6, 2019 Volunteers in Medicine will recognize the achievements and contributions of an amazing group of Northeast Florida women — Martha Baker, Vickie Cavey, Inger Geraghty, Virginia Hall, Rev. Dr. Helen Jackson, Helga Langthon, Eleanor Lynch, Velma Monteiro-Tribble, Dr. Pam Rama, Ellen Wiss and Sol Wynter.
“Florida Blue is proud of its longstanding partnership with Volunteers in Medicine,” said Smith. “We applaud the efforts of these amazing ladies to champion access to healthcare for Northeast Florida’s most vulnerable families and individuals. We are confident that this year-long initiative will significantly impact patients who utilize the services and programs offered by Volunteers in Medicine’s free downtown clinic.”
“Florida Blue is one of Volunteers In Medicine’s founding partners, as it provided vital funding for our free clinic’s pharmacy when we opened our doors in 2003,” said Mary Pat Corrigan, CEO of Volunteers In Medicine. She continued, “The company embodies the belief that everyone should have access to quality medical care. We are thrilled to have Florida Blue’s leadership and guidance on our board of directors, its financial support and to have it take a lead role in the launch of our inaugural 2017 “Women With Heart” event.
