The Capital Affair

was a resounding success

The Capital Affair

Thanks to donations from our event attendees and event sponsors, First Coast Cardiovascular, The Leb Family, Florida Blue, Pat and Inger Geraghty, Barcardi, United Healthcare, Sissine's , Arlington Toyota, Ellen Wiss, and the hard work of volunteers, this event surpassed expectations both in raising money and community awareness for Volunteers in Medicine.

On behalf of our board of directors, volunteers, staff and especially our patients, I want to extend our sincerest heartfelt thanks to you for your participation in our first annual “The Capital Affair” fundraising luncheon, which was graciously hosted by The Capital Grille. I hope you agree that the event was certainly worth dodging a few rain drops to attend. In fact, despite the dark skies and an early downpour, there wasn’t a seat to be had, and as a result we exceeded our fundraising goal of $20,000!

As one would expect, The Capital Grille’s management team and staff served up a 5-star menu and the service was beyond reproach while Joy Purdy, media personality and Channel 4, WJXT news anchor, did an amazing job emceeing the program. For guests wanting to get the inside track on fall fashion trends, Brooks Brothers, Cabi and Erin Healy Designs answered the call with an amazing fashion show featuring a wide array of fall season “must haves”! We understand several guests took advantage of the opportunity to put in an order for some of their fall favorites.

Special thanks to Debbie Dobes, one of our patients who shared her emotional story of the struggles she faced that led her to seek treatment at our clinic. You literally could hear a pin drop as she detailed her personal journey at the clinic while concluding that her health is back on track, and expressed her deepest gratitude for the services that helped make a positive impact on her life. Debbie’s story is not unlike the hundreds of other patients our volunteer doctors, nurses, specialists and non-clinical volunteers serve at our downtown clinic five days a week.
